Film Night at WPM from 7.30pm

January 10th – The Man who knew infinity (PG12) Matt Brown directs, writes and co-produces this biographical drama based on the biography of mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan by Robert Kanigel. Dev Patel stars as Ramanujan, an aspiring academic mathematician from a poor family in Madras, India. He applies to study at Cambridge University during World War I and is accepted. Srinivasa is soon shown to be a prodigal genius and is taken under the wing of Professor G.H. Hardy (Jeremy Irons), but he still faces challenges at Cambridge in the form of racism and prejudice. The film covers many topics but part of the discussion is between two men about two philosophies of life and how they spilled out into two different approaches to mathematics. For Ramanujan mathematics is thinking God’s thoughts after Him, or as he put it, “An equation for me has no meaning, unless it expresses a thought of God.
